• Peer support across the state for SMART Families to connect on questions and concerns, or help on events, etc.

SMART School Boards:  We need SMART School Board Members! 

Who should run for School Board? 

Any engaged parent, grandparent or resident who cares about the children in their community and the excellence of their schools. 

Main Duties of a School Board Member: 

• Hiring, firing, and conducting performance evaluations of the District Superintendent 

• Prescribe and approve the curricula and criteria for the promotion and graduation of students 

• Prescribe and enforce board policies and procedures for the district 

• Prescribe and enforce policies and procedures for disciplinary action for students, teachers, or administrators who engages in conduct that is a violation of the policies of the governing board.  (NOTE: Excludes disciplinary action that is cause for dismissal of the teacher or for revocation of the certificate of the teacher.) 

• Approval of district expenditures including approving and monitoring the budget and approving district purchases. 

• Closing or constructing schools.
