Even though I was raised in a loving, conservative home, and first registered to vote as a Republican, I switched to Democrat. Why? Partly out of pressure (basically bullied by my husband), but also, like many others, I had heard liberals were the compassionate ones, concerned about protecting the rights of others.

To all my friends who are long-standing Republicans, or Independents who lean conservative, please listen. Some of you are saying you won’t vote for one or another Republican candidate because they are “crazy”. I find this to be shallow, lazy thinking.

We’re not supposed to drive while distracted. So why do people vote that way?! Don’t be too busy with errands and important tasks that we elect bad politicians who make a wreck of our everyday life. Let’s remember, the politicians who we vote into office will have the steering wheel of our lives for the near future!

Believe it or not, many Republican voters are saying they cannot tell the difference between what Democrat or Republican candidates are saying about the issues. (I’m hearing this from average people who have been voting Republican all their lives, though they aren’t as engaged as probably most subscribers to this newsletter.) They’ve said basically: “Candidates all seem to care about the same issues. They all say they’re ‘going to fix the border’, for example. So, what’s the difference?”

The Democrat Party of today is NOT “Liberal”. John F Kennedy was a Liberal. He would be kicked out of Democrat circles today. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Liberal. Most college campuses would cancel Dr. King with angry protests. Today’s Democrats are driving a very different future—one of ‘soft’ Totalitarianism, a form of re-imagined Communist Marxism.

Are you considering voting for a Democrat, or not voting for the Republican because you think they’re crazy?

If you’re someone who votes according to the “candidate I like”, rather than the political party, consider what RESULTS your vote will bring to America, Arizona and your family. A candidate’s likability and respectfulness mean nothing if their actions bring destruction.

Distinctions are good—like when appreciating our various backgrounds, and especially when distinguishing good ideas from bad ideas. But Division is a different thing. The Left uses anger, fear, race, gender and class to separate us. “Identity politics” reduce people into “tokens”--useful for a Leftist, totalitarian vision. But that is NOT America.

Life is more about priorities than perfection. We rarely get everything we want, but we CAN choose what priorities are worth the struggle. Sometimes we focus so strongly at a sub-goal that we miss the big picture and compromised the main goal.

I was there with you.... as were many of us leaders of Arizona Women of Action. We understand that many of our members may be pro-America, but not necessarily pro-life. It’s a very emotional and complex issue, which also seems to some conservatives as a losing issue, politically.

How can we keep steady, strong and sane watching what’s happening to American politics, military, economics, education and culture--all of the wreckage to our foundational values, (not to mention the destruction of communities, families and individuals)?

We grieve once again the news of mass killings at the hands of young, very disturbed killers. Some pundits are asking the question, “Why do kids attack?” But maybe we should be asking, “Why are kids under attack?”
